David Fawcett Celebrates 40 Years

As if time has passed in the blink of an eye, our team has been creating handcrafted yacht models for more than 40 years now. Back in 1982, the first model made by David Fawcett was of a Contessa 35 sailing yacht. Our 600thmodel, completed in 2022, was of S.Y. Nostromo, designed by Dubois Naval Architects and built by Pendennis Yachts in 2009. During all the years in between, we have made nearly every variety of marine model, from the latest motor yachts and sailing yachts to classic yachts and naval ships.

We want to thank you, our treasured clients, for coming on this journey with us, and we hope our partnership continues for years to come.

Looking Back

The first big turning point in our history came in 1982 when David Fawcett was commissioned to build models for Peter de Savary's Victory America’s Cup Challenge. For this opportunity and the stepping-stone that it gave us, we will always be grateful to Peter de Savary and we honour his memory.

This commission was hugely significant for another reason, as it gave David Fawcett the chance to meet Malcolm McKeon for the first time. It is a source of great pride for us to say that we are still working for Malcolm today.

Present Day

The same passion and belief in quality held by David Fawcett, who founded the company in 1982, remains in the business today. This commitment to quality is based on three things: attention to detail, quality of finish and service. It also includes the importance of doing everything possible to capture the “feel” of the yacht.

Currently, underway in the workshop, we have detailed models of a 77m motor yacht and an 82m motor yacht, detailed models of two 16m sailing yachts, and one classic yacht, along with a styling model and two half models.

We have recently made a significant investment in new equipment and carried out substantial improvements to our workshop. We are also about in invest in solar panels on the roof of our building.

Looking Forward

Despite the uncertainty of these times, we are very optimistic and excited about the future for David Fawcett Limited. This optimism stems from both the variety of the work we are doing and the flexibility of our workshop, and we are doing everything we can to maintain and build on these.

Following a recent visit to the METS Exhibition, we are now enhancing our knowledge of the most up-to-date yacht equipment.

We are about to build a detailed model of a motor yacht with integrated lighting to be displayed in the Glancy Fawcett Showroom in Manchester.
